Oral Health

Good oral health promotes overall good health and vice versa, poor oral health can lead to many diseases of the internal organs. There are many signs of poor oral health, first and foremost is 'bad breath'. Bad breath is an indication of bacteria in the mouth and oral decay. Loose teeth, loss of appetite, tartar and drooling are additional signs that your pet is need of a dental cleaning. In California, while you may scale your own pet's teeth that unsupervised non-veterinarians may only clean a pets teeth with a toothbrush, gauze or toothpaste. At Imperial Beach Pet Hospital all our dental procedures are done under anesthesia with veterinary supervision. Anesthesia reduces the trauma a pet would experience if they were awake during the procedure. Regular teeth brushing is the best way to help combat periodontal disease and keep your pet healthy. Your veterinarian, during your regular wellness examination, will determine with you whether or not your loved one needs a dental cleaning.
