No one wants to go through the traumatizing feeling of having your pet lost. Not knowing whether they are safe nor knowing what to do to bring your loved one back. Statistics say that majority of pets that have run off never return home, however there is a way to increase their odds of making it home to you. First a collar with a phone number, either yours or your veterinarian, significantly increases those odds. However, collars can come off and tags can become unreadable so what should a pet owner do? Luckily, over the years, the pet industry has developed microchips that can help return your loved one. Microchipping is a very simple, inpatient procedure that takes just a few minutes and can be done during an examination or under anesthesia (say during a spay or neuter). Our staff uses a hypodermic needle to inject a tiny, glass capsule that encloses a microchip under your pet's skin, typically between the shoulder blades. Your pet will feel a small prick, much like they would for their regular shots, however the microchip is the size of a small grain of rice and they soon forget about it. This microchip does not contain any power source, the scanner actually supplies all the power to the chip to provide a reading of its unique code. This unique code is what let's our staff determine who the registered owner is. There is a catch to the situation though, while we have records of pets that we have microchipped, unless you register your pet with whatever provider you chose no other institution that reads the chip will be able to find you. They will know your pet has been microchipped, but will not be able to find you.
